SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Dietary Manager and directs the total operation of the Dietary Services
Department. They supervise and instruct Dietary Service employees and ensure
that the quality of the food is maintained.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be at least 18 years of age
2. Must meet ONE of the following qualifications as outlined by the Tennessee Department of Health:

  • a. Be registered with the Commission on Dietetic - Registration of the American Dietetic Association qualification standards;
  • b. Hold a baccalaureate degree with major studies in food and nutrition from an accredited college or university and have at least two years of experience in a health care food or nutrition service;
  • c. Have completed an approved program in food service supervision which includes major course work in food and nutrition;
  • d. Be certified by the Certifying Board of dietary Managers of the Dietary Managers Association with major course work in food and nutrition 
  • e. Successfully completed a U.S. Armed Services course in food service supervision with an emphasis in nutrition; 
  • f. Or, have documented evidence of at least two years’ satisfactory work experience in food service supervision and enroll in an approved program within 60 days of accepting responsibility for the position, and complete the program within 12 months of enrollment.

7. Perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below
8. One year experience in hospital or long-term food service
9. Minimum of one year supervisory experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES NECESSARY
 Leadership and excellent creative and communication skills, in both written and oral form
 Knowledge of dietary services practices and procedures
 Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing dietary services in facilities
 Ability to make independent decisions
 Perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below
