FOOD SERVICES MANAGERSupervisor: Food Services Supervisor/PrincipalFLSA Status: Non-ExemptDepartment: Food Services Terms of Employment: 162 DaysSupervises: Assigned StaffPosition Type: Full-Time Nature of WorkTo make available attractive, nutrition and palatable cafeteria meals in an efficient, pleasant, and clean environment while maintaining federal, state and district guidelines.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervise the preparation and service of high-quality food, includes, but not limited to preparing work schedules, assigning, and directing work, following menus, using standardized recipes, and portion control.Supervision and management of Food Services staff and cashiers.Responsible for the daily assignments and scheduling of employees.Supervise cashier i.e. selling of cafeteria prepared items, proper cash handling, cash collections, daily bank deposits, following federal, state, and district guidelines to protect the anonymity of students meal status (paid, free or reduced price).Verify cashiers daily meal and cash reports confirming accuracy.Ensure compliance with department rules and procedures, administrative directives and regulations, district and state policy, EID and federal regulations.Ensure all plates contain a reimbursable meal and all safety and sanitation procedures are followed.Provide hands-on training for current employees and substitutes.Provide leadership to ensure that all Food Service staff works together as a team.Organize participation by appropriate individuals for input and involvement in Food Services decisions. Have regular and open communication with the principal and school staff to ensure Food Service participation in school activities and decisions, when appropriate.Perform cashier duties in absence of cashier as defined in the cashier job description. Supervise and manage the preparation and shipping of foods to meet federal, state, and district guidelines to assigned schools and contracted program.Manage Food Services inventory and maintain an appropriate inventory through accurate ordering of food and supplies maintaining proper storage.Responsible for checking, verifying and signing for food and supplies received at time of delivery against order forms, warehouse delivery slips and vendor invoices, correcting errors with warehouse personnel or direct delivery vendors.Prepare, forward and maintain accurate menu record books, timesheets, commodity and purchased inventories, daily temperature records, plate counts for meals, snacks which may be required by federal, state and district auditors; also cost revenue schedules.Conduct and coordinate training and staff meetings for Food Services employees.Attend all scheduled training and staff meetings.Attend Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meetings monthly.Complete Professional Standard training and track CEUs.Complete annual mandatory Vector Training online.Helps screen, select, and train cafeteria workers and make sound recommendations about the assignment, discipline, and retention of cafeteria personnel.Communicate with staff both verbally and in writing.Responsible for the maintenance and enforcement of security of storeroom, supplies, and kitchen equipment, ensuring that cafeteria equipment, supplies, food, and prepared items are removed only with proper authorization and payment.Consult with Food Services Supervisor on personnel problems, staffing requirements, production and delivery problems and equipment needs.Notify Food Services office of food shortages.Make recommendations on hiring and continued employment of personnel.Verify time and attendance information for accuracy (including completeness) and forward timesheets to the Food Service Supervisor.Responsible for review of leave requests by staff, ensuring proper staffing.Initiate requests for equipment and building repairs and replacement.Notify Food Services Supervisor and Principal immediately following any accident, prepares and forwards report of accident following current procedure.Provide Food Services personnel for special events as approved by the Food Services Supervisor. Organize and manage Food Services and personnel for such events.Responsible for utilizing district approved computer software. Prepare materials for Board of Education adhering to the Superintendents office timelines, including drafting, and editing or resolutions that require research and citation to statutes or rules.Adhere to relevant procurement statutes and NM Public Education Department (NMPED) rules in the purchase of goods and services.Adhere to applicable NMPED Manual of Procedures (PSAB) and district policy regarding budget accountability.Exhibit professionalism by maintaining good attendance and adhering to established work schedule.Complies with the Code of Ethics, administrative directives, board policy, state and federal statutes and rules and regulations.Communicate and display courteous and professional behavior toward students, the public, the Immediate Supervisor, School and District Administrators, staff and peers.Safeguard the confidentiality of information pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and other applicable state and federal statutes.Working outside of the assigned work schedule may be required.Perform such other tasks as may be assigned within the parameters of the job description.Minimum Qualifications1.High school diploma or equivalent.2.Prior experience in a PreK-12 education food service and food preparation program.3.Current ServSafe Manager Certification or obtain within 30 days of employment.4.Ability to convert recipes.5.Valid drivers license.6.Ability to pass a criminal background check.Knowledge, Abilities, and SkillsKnowledge of: food safety practices; NM Food Code; computer systems, personal and professional task management; Food Service Safety and Health Requirements; basic mathematical functions; universal hygiene precautions (bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, etc.) Ability to: convert recipes, communicate effectively; supervise employees; lift 50 pounds; must adhere to freezer temperatures when asked to store or inventory freezer items. Skills in: analyzing issues, evaluating alternatives, and making logical recommendations based on findings to address concerns and/or make recommendations to improve programs, policies, processes, procedures, and methods; processes, procedure and applicable rules and regulations; reading, interpreting, and communicating policies, regulations, and technical information; reviewing, preparing, evaluating, and verifying relevant records, reports, calculations, documentation, and presentations; maintaining complete and accurate records; effectively managing and leading staff, and delegating tasks; interpreting technical instructions and analyzing complex variables; operating a personal computer with installed generic and specialized software; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands to ensure achievement of goals and objectives.Environmental and Physical FactorsWork is performed in a standard office environment. Light physical demands; frequent use of a personal computer and standard office equipment. Frequent District-wide travel.Work Situation FactorsPosition involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues.
