POSITION OVERVIEW

Desert Champions is hiring a Front of House Manager for Nobu - Indian Wells. The FOH Manager will assist the Restaurant Manager to uphold Nobu service standards. This position requires exceptional communication skills, and the ability to be discerning and execute good judgment. The person in this position will be expected to have a notable presence during service, be an active participant in day-to-day operations, interact with guests, and recognize solutions as well as opportunities to create memorable experiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure and maintain that all Nobu standards are incorporated into the daily operations of the restaurant including product and service quality, restaurant cleanliness, sanitation, and speed of service *
  • Comply with Desert Champions and Nobu policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations governing health and safety *
  • Responsible for management of safety training and adherence, team training, mentoring, supervision, and motivation *
  • Assist with setting up interviews, selection process, new hire orientation, scheduling, performance correction, and performance reviews *
  • Handle daily operations of the restaurant, such as staff roll call, task delegation and service supervision *
  • Participate in management training about standardized policies and confer weekly with general manager and owner management about restaurant operations *
  • Exercise professional judgement and diplomacy when dealing with all staff, management, and customers, in all situations *
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with guests and develop client loyalty *
  • Work closely with staff, chefs, and other managers to ensure guests have extraordinary experiences *
  • Respond to customer complaints promptly and take appropriate action to resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction *
  • Assist the Restaurant Manager in optimizing profits by controlling product, minimizing waste, and maintaining labor *
  • Accurately complete designated duties such as inventory control, ordering of products, and cash control *
  • Calculate future needs in kitchenware and equipment and place orders, as needed *
  • Supervise food preparation, customer service, cleaning, and repairs to restaurant *
  • Coordinate communication between front of the house and back of the house staff while promoting cooperative effort, a team spirit, and good morale among employees *
  • Perform daily inspections and periodic audits to check safety of equipment and to ensure that food is cooked properly *
  • Assist with payroll documentation, time and attendance, sales gratuities and cash receipts including related areas of accounting, budgeting, credit policies, and banking methods *
  • Keep detailed records of daily, weekly, and monthly costs and revenues *
  • Assist with providing regular, accurate, computerized reports of operations to general manager and owner management *
  • Help with duties of other employees (e.g., cashier, server, cook, etc.) when necessary *

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2+ years of restaurant management experience in high volume environment
  • Experience in upscale and/or Japanese restaurant
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or higher preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Positive, energetic, punctual, and reliable
  • Calm under pressure: must have the ability to solve problems, trouble shoot, effectively prioritize work and assignments
  • Meet deadlines and ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the business needs of the restaurant
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • California Workplace Harassment certification
  • California Food Safety Training (Manager) certification
  • California Responsible Beverage Service certification

LANGUAGE ABILITY

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write and formulate articulate correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

MATH ABILITY

  • Advanced math ability, Strong foundation in core concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Calculation of amounts, sizes, or other measurements
  • General understanding of accounting formulas
  • Ability to organize numerical data and maintain attention to detail

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Intermediate to Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience working with Micros Symphony and Open Table a plus
  • Intermediate computer literacy, including laptop, iPad, time clock, etc.
