Cheese Manager

Uncle Giuseppe's is currently looking for a Cheese Manager for our newest gourmet location, Sayville, NY . Our Cheese Managers are responsible for preparing, stocking, serving and merchandising cheese and related food products to our customers while maintaining our high standards of safety and sanitation. Responsibilities will also include managing department staff, training, coaching and hiring.

Responsibilities

• Will be responsible for managing a staff of cheese clerks, providing updates on new products, pairing options and new training information
• Supports a positive customer experience, providing guests with a unique, enthusiastic and informational experience
• Maintains up to date knowledge of Cheese options, pairings, inventory, shelf life
• Observes and supports all store rules and company policies, directing and coaching department employees
• Packs, labels and merchandises cheese and related items according to Uncle Giuseppes policies
• Maintains the entire work area in a clean and sanitary condition and follows all safety procedures
• Other duties and functions as assigned.

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a cheese department of a gourmet store with specific training in the selection and inventory of the many different cheese options
• In depth understanding of cheese storage, shelf life, pairing options, shipment and selection
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate strong knowledge of the many different cheeses and options
• Must be able to speak, read and understand the English language
• Strong attention to detail for accuracy in all facets of the position

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
• There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
