Job Purpose: Ensure revenue maximization and profitability of banquet budget and room revenue goals for the sales and catering department. This position is responsible for generating top line revenue for the hotel and assisting the Director of Sales in achieving departmental goals as well as supervising Catering Managers. Essential Responsibilities: Leads, trains and mentors catering staff including hiring, coaching development, perfoming evaluations, discliplinary actions and terminations. Recognized as the driver of all catering revenues and ensures the quarterly and annual revenue goals are achieved for the hotel. Develops marketing plans and evaluates trends to modify strategies that will enhance revenues effectively. Maintains a close working relationship with the Director of Food and Beverage, Chef and Banquet Manager. Directs the catering sales effort to ensure revenue maximization with a working knowledge of food and beverage compositions and an understanding of kitchen and banquet service procedures. Uses strong leadership skills to lead Banquet Event Order meetings, pre- and post-conference meetings, sales meetings, etc. Position Requirements: Professional appearance Strong communication skills A four year degree in business administration or sales and marketing, and three or more year's banquet or meeting planner experience, or the equivalent industry experience.  Prior hotel and supervisory experience preferred. This is a guest service position, which works with other servers, attendants, kitchen staff, and sales/catering staff to provide friendly, courteous service in the hotel's meeting and banquet functions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: This list is not comprehensive, but indicates duties and responsibilities which may be redefined pursuant to operational needs) 1. Determine the number of tables need to set up function and proper set up of room; set-up room according to specifications; set tables by arranging place settings in accordance with prescribed procedures; set out chafing dishes, heat lamps, signs and easels and self-serve utensils; check and refill serving dispensers such as coffee/tea pots and condiment containers 2. Inspect glassware/china and silverware for cleanliness before using or storing; visually inspect equipment, fixtures, floors, etc. in assigned work areas to insure clean appearance and/or sanitary conditions 3. Carry containers and trays of food to and from work and storage areas; deliver food and beverages, and give 100% guests satisfaction in every circumstance 4. Prepare hot beverages such as coffee , tea, and coffee; serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to customers       5. Observe and/or ask customers about their needs and levels of satisfaction with the food or service; answer questions about menu items, buffet, etc.; resolve complaints about poor food preparation, slow service, rudeness, etc.; notify customers of problems in a manner that maintains customer satisfaction; talk with customers in order to create a friendly atmosphere 6. Inspect food before it is served to insure that quality standards for preparation and appearance are met; advise other employees (ie manager, cook) of delays in food preparation; notify responsible employee if a prepared food item fails to meet quality standard 7. Discuss operational problems and shortages or other problems with manager and/or supervisor 8. Remove dishes, glasses, etc. from tables; clean and polish stainless steel equipment and fixtures; pick up litter or trash from public areas; perform clean-up tasks to insure cleanliness and sanitation standards are met 9. Follow all company policies, and procedures; assure compliance to all company standards 10. Coordinate the activities of other employees by assigning work in a way that insures prompt and courteous service to customers; check behind other employees on clean-up tasks to ensure standards are met; inspect rooms to verify proper set-up for room function 11. Take incoming phone calls and relay messages as necessary 12. Operate HSI System; accept customer payments by taking cash, checks, or charges, and counting out appropriate change if necessary 13. Perform all other duties as assigned WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: 1. Reports directly to the Banquet Manager 2. Supervises and oversees Banquet staff 3. Must maintain a good working relationship with other departments, employees, and guests 3. Interfaces daily with the public WORKING CONDITIONS: - Standing and walking for long hours. - Lifting up to 50 lb. - Repetitive bending and reaching. - Normal Temperatures with the exception of working inside of a cooler in some cases. Minimum 1 year experience in a guest service position in a restaurant/banquet atmosphere with supervisory experience. Ability to perform a task with minimal direction or supervision. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other team members on a continuous basis. Ability to divide attention among several tasks at one time.
